Quick Start
Get started in three simple steps:
-
Go to AI Sheets:
Click "AI Sheets" at the bottom of the Genspark homepage, or select it from the "+" (New) button in the sidebar.
-
Describe your needs:
Tell AI what you want to analyze. Sample prompts:
Compile NVIDIA's financial statements from FY2021 to FY2025.
Analyze sales trends from the uploaded Excel and visualize performance by region.
-
Get results:
Based on your needs, AI automatically selects and executes the right analysis steps — cleaning messy data, writing SQL queries for databases, running Python for statistical analysis, generating Excel formulas, or creating visualizations. All code and logic are transparent. Edit directly in the sheet, refine with follow-up prompts, or export as .xlsx for further use.
Feature & How-To Guides
Data Collection
AI Sheets automatically collects structured data from authoritative sources:
-
Professional Databases: Genspark integrates specialized databases across different domains:
- Financial Data — SEC (public company filings, 10-K/10-Q, etc.), Yahoo Finance (stock prices, etc.)
- Academic Data — Google Scholar (papers, citations, research trends, etc.)
- Product Data — Amazon (product information, pricing, reviews, etc.)
-
General Web Data: For non-database data, AI retrieves high-quality information from public web sources based on your needs, and cross-checks critical data against multiple sources. Verification still matters — always check critical values against the source cells and citations before you rely on them.
AI Sheets supports data extraction and analysis from multiple sources:
-
Upload Files via Chat: Upload local files directly (Excel, PDF, Word, images, etc.), and AI will automatically extract and analyze the data.
-
Connect Data Sources via MCP: On the Genspark homepage or within AI Sheets, click the "Tools" button in the chat box, open the MCP page, select the tool you want to connect, and follow the instructions to complete the setup. Once connected, you can use prompts to have AI directly query the data source and perform analysis. Currently supported:
- Google Drive — Access cloud files, extract documents and spreadsheet data
- Supabase — Connect to your database, execute SQL queries and data analysis
- Custom MCP — Other MCP tools that meet AI Sheets query requirements, which can connect to enterprise databases
For the full connector list and how connections work, see Connectors and integrations.
Sheet Operations
AI Sheets features a built-in web-based spreadsheet editor that supports both manual editing and AI-assisted editing:
-
Manual Editing: You can operate the spreadsheet just like Excel:
- Copy, paste, cut, delete data
- Use common Excel formulas for data processing and analysis
- Create and adjust charts, including: Area charts, Bar charts, Column charts, Line charts, Pie charts, Doughnut charts, Scatter charts, Funnel charts, Radar charts, Treemap charts, Waterfall charts
- Format settings and style adjustments
- Add and delete worksheets
- Click Fullscreen in the upper right corner to enter full-screen editing mode for more workspace.
-
AI Editing: You can also direct AI to perform spreadsheet operations using natural language:
-
Generate Formulas — Describe calculation logic in natural language, and AI automatically generates the corresponding Excel formula:
Show what percentage each product contributes to overall revenue
Calculate the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2020 to 2024
Add a column that shows "High" if sales > 10000, "Medium" if between 5000–10000, otherwise "Low"
-
Generate Charts — Describe visualization needs, and AI auto-selects the appropriate chart type and generates it:
Visualize the market share comparison between competitors using a pie chart
Generate a bar chart comparing sales performance across different regions
Show customer satisfaction performance by department using a radar chart
-
Focused Area Editing (Send to Chat) — After selecting a cell range, click the "Send to Chat" button to send the selected area to the chat box. You can direct AI to perform content corrections, in-depth analysis, or chart generation for that specific area:
Analyze the selected data and identify the top 3 anomalies or outliers
Highlight duplicate values in the selected customer ID column
Standardize all phone numbers in the selected range to (XXX) XXX-XXXX format
-
Analysis & Insight
You can ask questions about spreadsheet content, and AI will provide answers with cell references. You can also have AI deeply explore the data and generate insights, with the agent creating beautiful visualization dashboards using HTML tools.
- Share: Click "Share" in the top right corner, adjust permission settings, and share your project link for viewing or collaborative editing.
- Export: Click Export in the upper left corner of the editor, then choose Export as XLSX. Your formatting, formulas, and calculations are preserved, and the file opens in Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet apps.
Credits and Free Quota
AI Sheets works through agent tasks. A few things are worth knowing before you spend:
- A run that partly succeeds still costs credits. Attach the files the task needs and give clear, well-scoped instructions before you start. If a task keeps failing on the same step, stop it and fix the input rather than retrying.
- Free Quota covers some runs. If your plan includes Free Quota — the weekly allowance that covers eligible tasks at no credit cost — a covered AI Sheets task is paid from the Free Quota pool instead of your credits. See How Free Quota Works for what's covered.
- Billing questions. For a technical billing issue, contact support with a link to the task, what went wrong, and your approximate balance before and after. For how credits are counted and charged, see the Credits Guide.
Pro Tips
Break Down Complex Tasks into Steps
- For multi-step analysis tasks, have AI complete data collection and cleaning first, then proceed to in-depth analysis
- Split complex tasks into multiple instructions, verify results after each step before telling AI to proceed to the next step to avoid errors that could impact the final results
Sample: Financial Analysis on NVIDIA
- Collect NVIDIA's revenue, net income, and operating margin data from FY2020 to FY2024.
- Calculate year-over-year growth rates for revenue and net income, and visualize the trends.
- Analyze what drove the revenue growth in FY2024, compare with industry benchmarks, and provide strategic insights.
Sample: ROI Analysis of Marketing Campaign
- Use my marketing campaign data and calculate total spend, conversions, and revenue generated by each campaign.
- Based on the results, calculate ROI and cost per conversion for each campaign, then rank them by performance.
- For the top 3 campaigns, analyze which channels and audience segments performed best, and recommend budget allocation for next quarter.
Multi-Sheet Collaborative Analysis
When working with complex data that spans multiple dimensions, leverage AI Sheets' multi-tab capabilities to understand existing workbook structures and perform cross-sheet relational analysis automatically.
- Upload existing multi-tab spreadsheets and ask AI to explain complex formulas and model structures
- Create multiple sheets within a single project for organized data management
- Use natural language to direct cross-sheet analysis:
- Link sales data from Sheet1 with inventory data from Sheet2 to generate a restocking recommendation table
Reduce Conversation Rounds per Project
- When there are too many conversation rounds, AI may lose performance due to context compression
- Whenever the context becomes too long, create a new Sheets agent project
AI Sheets vs GenOffice vs Genspark for Microsoft Office
Three different products share the spreadsheet name:
- AI Sheets (this page) — Genspark's autonomous AI spreadsheet agent
- GenOffice — a separate, standalone open-source office suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDF) with AI built in
- Genspark for Microsoft Office — a set of three add-ins for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint that open an AI task pane inside the app
If you're working inside Microsoft Excel and want AI in the task pane, see Genspark for Microsoft Office.
Troubleshooting
1. It said the task was done, but the sheet didn't change
- Check you're looking at the right place. If the project has more than one sheet (tab), confirm the change landed on the one you're viewing.
- Name the exact cell instead of describing the problem. "Cell B12 shows 0; it should be 1,240" works better than "fix the totals".
- Give one instruction at a time, and check the result before sending the next one.
- If an earlier step went wrong, restore the earlier version — see 3. A sheet went blank, or I lost a step.
2. The export didn't download
- On desktop, use Export in the upper left corner of the editor, then choose Export as XLSX. There is no separate "Download" item.
- "Completed" means the task finished — it doesn't guarantee your browser saved the file. Check your Downloads folder, and if nothing appears, allow downloads for genspark.ai in your browser.
- If the file still doesn't download, open the project on a desktop browser and try Export as XLSX again.
3. A sheet went blank, or I lost a step
- On the result card in the chat, click Restore (the tooltip reads "Restore to this version"). It reloads that earlier version into the live workbook and saves it again.
- Restore takes the workbook back to the state before that step. It isn't a browsable version history, and you can't name or keep separate snapshots of a workbook.
- The button is greyed out with "Cannot restore while AI is responding" — wait for the current task to finish, then restore.
- To protect a good state, use Export as XLSX on desktop before you try something risky.
4. A chart or format didn't update
- Name the object and the sheet: "change the pie chart on the Summary sheet to show Q3".
- If it still looks unchanged, restore the earlier version and send the instruction once more.
- Charts are supported — including area, bar, column, line, pie, doughnut, scatter, funnel, radar, treemap, and waterfall. An unchanged chart usually means the instruction didn't reach the right chart.
5. The output language changed
- AI Sheets has no output-language setting, and changing your Display Language doesn't change its output — the agent replies in the language of your last message.
- To change it, write your next message in the language you want, or simply ask it to switch.
6. A deleted project can't be recovered
Deleting an AI Sheets project is permanent. There is no undo, and no way to restore a deleted project from the project list. Before you delete, use Export as XLSX to save anything you might need.
FAQ
Can AI Sheets be used on mobile devices? What features are supported on mobile?
AI Sheets currently only supports viewing results on mobile devices. We recommend using a desktop computer for full functionality.
Can AI Sheets use specific statistical methods (such as regression analysis, hypothesis testing) for analysis?
AI Sheets supports most data analysis that can be accomplished through Excel formulas, including statistical analysis.
What is the data limit that AI Sheets can support?
AI Sheets doesn't enforce a fixed cell limit — there's no set maximum number of cells. Practical performance depends on your computer's hardware and available memory: on desktop, AI Sheets performs spreadsheet operations in your browser, so keep enough machine resources free to avoid lag and memory overload. If a large workbook starts to slow down or use too much memory, split it into smaller sheets or start a new project. When the agent reads a very large range, it may process it in pieces — a single range read is capped at 3,000 cells.
How accurate is the data AI Sheets collects?
AI Sheets cross-checks critical data against multiple sources, but automated collection isn't perfect. Before you rely on a value, verify it against the source cells and citations in the sheet — especially for high-stakes decisions.
What should I do if AI Sheets makes an error?
Tell AI the exact error and how it should be corrected, export and back up your results as you go, and break complex tasks into a series of simpler tasks. For tasks that need high accuracy, review all changes before you finalize the output.
If you can't resolve the issue, or you have a specific feature request, contact support. When support asks to see the project, share it with [email protected] (in the Share dialog, invite [email protected] by email as a Viewer) rather than making it public.
What security considerations should I be aware of when using AI Sheets?
We prioritize data security. Your data is private and is never used for other purposes.
User Best Practices:
- Source Validation: Be cautious with files from untrusted sources, as hidden content could mislead the AI.
- Access Control: Please ensure project sharing permissions are set correctly to prevent unauthorized access.
What Excel features are incompatible with AI Sheets?
The following are currently not supported:
- Pivot tables of any kind, including Power Pivot, aren't supported.
- Macros & VBA execution: You cannot execute VBA scripts natively within AI Sheets. However, AI can generate VBA code for you to copy and run in desktop Excel.
- Excel native data connections: Legacy connections (ODBC, OLEDB, external links) are not supported.
- Complex or legacy charts: Such as 3D charts or specific specialized diagrams. Standard charts are supported.
- User-defined functions (UDFs).
- Power Query.
